Kaye receives award at Lawrence University
Lawrence University softball player Cathy Kaye received the school's Charles E. Pond Award for Women.
The award is presented to a senior for all-around athletic ability in two or more sports and for sportsmanship, school spirit and scholarship.
Kaye was a four-year starter in both softball and basketball and also earned a letter in cross-country. She was a three-time All-Midwest Conference softball selection and also earned All-Great Lakes Region honors.
Kaye is a graduate of Sevastopol High School.
Youth golf school at Peninsula course
Registration is open for the Dr. William and Carolyn Bell Golf School to be held June 17-20 at Peninsula State Park Golf Course in Ephraim.
The program is free to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 14. It runs from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on each of the four days.

County athletes get conference awards
Five Door County student-athletes received the Packerland Conference's Outstanding Achievement Award for the 2012-13 school year.
They are Gibraltar's Clarissa Jauregui and Megan Swain, Sevastopol's Dominique Bowers and Holly LaPlant, and Sturgeon Bay's Rachel Haight.
The award is presented to seniors who have a minimum 3.9 grade-point average, competed in three sports during their junior and senior years and earned a minimum of seven athletic letters.
Receiving the Packerland Conference Scholar Athlete Award were Gibraltar's Bjorn Johnson, Sam Kordon, Andrea Nelson and Ainsley Nelson; Sevastopol's Rustom Engineer, Sam Potier, Miranda Brandt and Cassie Borkovetz; Southern Door's Cora Baudhuin and Rachel Andres; and Sturgeon Bay's Zach VanderVelden, Riley Schartner, Rachel Haight and Natalie Rose.
The award is presented to a maximum of two boys and two girls from each conference school who are seniors, have earned at least four varsity letters and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Soccer club has opening training
The Surgeon Bay Soccer Club is having open training sessions starting Sunday, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., at John Miles County Park in Sturgeon Bay.
The soccer club is open to all students in the Sturgeon Bay School District who will be entering grades five through eight next school year. The season starts in early August and ends in late October.
