Gerald Van Dyn Hoven said he set out to add 800 square feet to his building at 500 Main Ave. in De Pere.

Some $2 million and 30,666 square feet later, Van Dyn Hoven is looking at a three-story building with 12 apartments, two businesses and underground parking.

"I had it in mind to put on an L-shaped addition," Van Dyn Hoven said. "I went to the city and they said, 'Let us show you our plans for the corridor.' " ...
