The Clark County University of Wisconsin-Extension will host a walking and talking crops field day June 20 at the Ralph Smrecek Jr. farm, W5969 Kington Road, north of Greenwood (watch for the signs).

Smrecek has used reduced and no-till practices on this farm for more than 20 years. He will describe some challenges and benefits of using these practices on his farm.

Richard Halopka, Clark County crops and soils agent, will address current challenges of the 2013 growing season, providing some insight to current crop conditions and required scouting in the field.

Jane Reigel, NRCS, along with Halopka, will discuss soil health issues and concerns. They will also provide hands-on demonstrations for soil health related to water infiltration and carbon capture on no-tilled fields. This will be a rain or shine event.

This program is available at no cost. Call 715-743-5121 with questions. If you have concerns on your farm bring examples of the crop injury to the meeting to determine a cause.
