WIAA baseball roundup: Sun Prairie routs Stoughton to advance

Semifinals

Sun Prairie collected 16 hits in five innings as the Cardinals defeated Stoughton 15-5 in a WIAA Division 1 state semifinal game at Fox Cities Stadium.

Zach Fairchild went 4-for-4, and Ryan Curran drove in three runs to lead Sun Prairie.

Ben Gerber had three hits and scored two runs for Stoughton.

Quarterfinals

Stoughton 4, Neenah 3

Ben Gerber reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning and came around to score on a sacrifice bunt by PJ Rosowski to give Stoughton the victory.

Gerber and Tony Volk each had two hits and Rosowski was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits and three runs in seven innings of work.

Spencer Miller went 2-for-2 to lead Neenah (12-17).

Sun Prairie 4, Waunakee 0

Sun Prairie jumped out to a three-run lead after the first inning en route to a 4-0 win over Waunakee.

Sam Lund was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and striking out five, and Conner Funnell had two hits for Sun Prairie (23-2).

Stevens Point 4, Kenosha Bradford 2

Cal Giese sllowed six hits and one earned run and struck out seven in 6 23 innings to lead Stevens Point to the victory.

Austin Schulfer closed the game for Stevens Point, striking out the final batter with the bases loaded to seal the win.

Giese went 3-for-3 and Eric Zelhofer and Kevin Slezak each added two hits for the Panthers.
