De Pere High School's girls soccer team knew it wasn't going to be easy to make it back to the WIAA Division 1 state tournament this week because top-seeded Kimberly was standing in the Redbirds' way.

Instead of being intimidated by the Papermakers during the teams' matchup in the sectional final Saturday, June 8, at Kaukauna High School, the second-seeded Redbirds remembered that they had been in this spot previously.

Thanks to that experience, along with sheer determination and the will to never give up, the Redbirds took home the sectional title with a 4-3 shootout victory. ...
