June 13, 1955 - New highway shop of county now in use: Brown County's new half-million-dollar highway shop at Duck Creek formally went into service at noon today, when telephone and county radio connections were cut over.

The new shop is located immediately north of the building which has housed the department for more than 30 years, but which had become inadequate. In addition to more space and modern design, it will provide a more efficient arrangement of operations. The old buildings will be retained for storage.

In addition to the highway shops and offices, the building houses the county radio, and the Town of Howard fire department. Branch highway shops are operated at Greenleaf, New Franken and Lange's Corners.

Construction of the new building started last year, following its authorization by the County Board and sale of a bond issue to finance it.
