Ellen Roeseler: Fundraiser to benefit local arts education, programming

Once upon a time, Cupid was flying between the earth and the moon with his arrow ready to strike the heart of a beautiful young mortal maiden. What happened exactly we do not know, but the arrow missed her heart and struck instead a milk-white pansy, turning it purple with desire. From that time on, the flower was magical.

So begins "A Midsummer Night's Dream," by William Shakespeare. And so becomes the premise of an evening in 2013, on the first day of summer, full of magic, mischief and merriment. When was the last time you let your inhibitions go and experienced "midsummer madness?" Felt the pull of a full moon; imagined fairies riding fireflies, sprinkling enchanted glitter in their wake, heightening your senses and filling your heart with anticipation?

Too long, I'll bet.

When was the last time you had a meal so delicious, it made you moan with satisfaction? Imagine sharing this delightful indulgence with your favorite friends amid a backdrop of breathtaking beauty on a day so perfect it was a blueprint for heaven. Full of surprises, delights and fantastic food, this sweet experience is less than a month away, and you won't want to miss it.

Consider this your personal invitation to join Wisconsin Rapids Community Theatre and the Central Wisconsin Cultural Center at Bull's Eye Country Club on June 21 for a Midsummer Night's Dinner Soirée. Renowned chef Mark Mavrantonis' mouthwatering temptations will please your palate, the view will melt away your stress, and the music will free your spirit. Fun will be had. Tickets cost $50 each. Cocktails are at 6 p.m., and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.

And, if you're a golfer - that much better! We have a scramble starting at noon that you won't want to miss. Eighteen holes on one of the best courses in Wisconsin, a $25,000 hole-in-one prize, free lunch, and fun twists and turns along the way. What could be more fun? The $80 fee includes all golfing, lunch, cart and all the fellowship and sunshine you can stand!

So, why should you attend this event? Well, because your support will help WRCT and Cultural Center continue to provide arts education and programming to the central Wisconsin area. When we receive national recognition for our arts achievements locally, you know how important it is to keep the quality and spirit of the arts alive in this community. You know your contribution is needed and meaningful. You know your support is what got us there in the first place.

Call the WRCT office to make your reservation for this great event today - we'll need your dinner reservation by early next week at the latest. The Midsummer Golf Outing and Dinner Soirée is part of the 2013 Cranberry Blossom Festival - make it a week of fun!
