Kewaunee man leads Door County officers on chase

What began as a routine traffic stop of a 20-year-old Kewaunee man ended after an 8.3-mile chase early Thursday, damaging a Sturgeon Bay Police squad car in the process.

A Door County sheriff's deputy attempted to stop Donald W. Gronke as he was driving left of center on County C west of County PD, according to Sheriff Terry Vogel. Instead of stopping, Gronke turned south on County PD heading toward Wisconsin 42/57, where he turned north.

According to the accident report, Gronke turned into a private driveway at 6704 Wisconsin 42/57 then turned around and went into an adjacent ditch. Sturgeon ...
