Agree to disagree

Being a first-time participant to the forum, I would like to thank Pat Pankratz and the HTR for the opportunity to voice my opinion on issues of importance to the reader. I believe in God, family and country, with open dialogue. With love for our fellow man, we can agree to disagree.

I pledge to research all topics, to separate fact from fiction and to write the truth, so our children and grandchildren will have the God-given freedom of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty."

Lights on!

I don't know if I was to blame or not, but my street was swept better this past week than it has been in at least two years. Thanks!

Let's talk about something "new" for a change, the headlights on your motor vehicle. If you choose to drive an "open air" vehicle (motorcycle or motorbike) the law forces the manufacturer to have the lights come on automatically when the ignition is engaged. This law has been in effect for over 30 years. The reason for the law was to make cycles - and cyclists - more visible.

Evidently the lawmakers of the day didn't want to tackle the whole team, so they just picked on a small member. Today that's called bullying. Don't wait for the law to be changed, take responsibility for yourself. Turn on your lights and ask those you love to do likewise.

Freedom mutilated

The Bill Of Rights (Constitutional Amendments 1 to 8, 1791) guaranteed from the government specific freedoms for the American people. Obama's disregard of our Constitutional freedoms of speech, religion, and press (First Amendment) has been balanced by attacks on our freedom to bear arms (Second Amendment). However, our right to privacy (Fourth Amendment) has been basically eliminated by the recent IRS, phone, electronic and drone scandals.

Obama's quest to restrict our Constitutional freedoms and to socialize our country is a perilous maneuver. No citizen is exempt from these mutilations of our freedom.

Tastes the same!

... and another thing!

My "dearest, darling wife with whom I am well pleased" and I don't agree on the correct way to construct a bacon, lettuce and tomato (BLT) sandwich! She claims the bacon goes on the bottom, the tomato in the middle and the lettuce on top. Asked why that order, she stated, "The lettuce always goes on top."

My way: lettuce on the bottom, curl up to hold the slippery tomato which comes next followed by the bacon on top. We agree mayo goes on both pieces of toast. Guess what? Either way, they taste the same!

... that's really ridiculous, stop it already!

Easy to spend

This is about other people's money (OPM). OPM is easy to spend. Governments are hooked on OPM. We recently had a perfect local example. When the beer bottle murals were threatened, emails poured into city hall demanding that they be saved. But, when the city solicited donations to save them, almost nothing was donated.

Certain people thought that OPM would be used. That was OK to spend. But, when actual money was expected, very few donated. They can spend OPM but not their own cash.

Answer me this

I have questions and I need answers.

? When a new construction project has its groundbreaking, politicians, dignitaries and whoever else involved with the project wear new hard hats while symbolically digging nothing with a shovel. What is going to cause head damage?

? Why do male college athletes have diamond earrings larger than most people could afford, not to mention the hundreds if not thousands of dollars in tattoos?

? Why do fans at major golf tournaments yell "in the hole" even on drives that can't make the green?

? Why do home team baseball fans boo the opposing pitcher when he throws to first base to keep a runner close?

? Why do people believe Fox is fair and balanced?

Foregone conclusion

After the 9-11 attacks, Americans demanded strong and immediate action to increase national security to track and stop terrorists. Congress responded by quickly passing the "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001," (Patriot Act).

What did anyone really think The Patriot Act was going to do? Magically find and track only "those" people? Tracking all Americans' phone calls and Internet usage was a foregone conclusion. No one should now be surprised.

Nor should anyone be blaming Obama for something the majority of Americans wanted and a previous president enacted.
