End of the spring and here she comes back

Hi, Hi, Hi, Hi, there

Them summer days, those summer days.

- Sly and the Family Stone

Indeed, those summer days. Are they really upon us? With all this horrific weather we have been having lately, I was beginning to wonder if summer would ever reach us.

Summer officially starts at 12:04 a.m. (CDT) on June 21. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope we finally get the kind of weather we should have this time of year.

No matter what kind of weather is upon us, summer activities will go on. If you weren't paying attention, you missed the dairy breakfast held this morning. If it is not 10 a.m. yet, you still have time.

What does our community have to offer during these "warm months?" You can watch softball on Thursday nights. With recent rainouts, there are now four games a night.

The Spencer Public Library will have its summer programs. On July 10, Professor Marvel's Archeological Adventure comes to the Lions Shelter. An interesting event for teenagers is at 6 p.m. July 15. Teens can get creative and help decorate the walls of the library. Materials will be provided. On July 24, Dig into Reading Craft Day will close the summer program schedule. Children are invited to the park for a day of crafts and fun.

The Spencer Kids Group, or SKG, summer recreation program starts July 8 and runs to Aug. 15. SKG also will sponsor two outdoor movies.

Other events also dot the calendar in July. The Spencer Swamp Stompers annual summer show will be July 21. The Spencer Youth Recreation golf outing is on July 27. August brings us the Music in the Park series.

As you can see, there are a number of activities for all ages. I hope you enjoy your summer days and get out and enjoy the NICE weather.

Remember, this Sunday is Father's Day. Happy Father's Day!
