SAFER District fire merger will save Weston, Rib Mountain money, officials say

A plan to merge two municipalities' fire and emergency service departments will amp up the services residents get now and save taxpayers money, officials said June 11.

About 75 people attended a June 11 public hearing held by the Weston Village Board and Rib Mountain Town Board at the Rib Mountain Municipal Center to discuss the merger of the two municipalities' departments. They also approved a charter for the district - to be called the South Area Fire and Emergency Response District, or SAFER - and appointed members to a district governing board.
