Library Friends group receives grant

The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded a $6,000 grant to the Friends of Lester Public Library of Rome to help fund the construction of a 5,000-square-foot addition to the existing 2,500-square-foot Lester Public Library of Rome.

According to Jeanne Osgood, capital campaign chairwoman, the $900,000 project will expand the building's capacity from 30 people to 100, allow for better wheelchair and walker access and create a larger children's area, a quiet reading/study area, a computer area and a community room for summer reading programs, group activities and cultural events.
