A Washington Island woman is seeing the dream she had as a young woman literally take root as a business venture.

The Lavender Shop opened last month inside the Historic Island Dairy, 1309 Range Line Road. The shop is part of a larger business, Fragrant Isle LLC, that is working to establish lavender fields on the island to not only make lavender-based products but to create jobs and bring in tourism.

When Martine Anderson was in her 20s, she moved from Paris to Draguignan in Provence, France, and for almost 10 years lived among miles and miles of lavender plants. ...
