The following are compiled from reports filed recently with the Door County Sheriff's Department:

? A $20,000 engagement ring was reported lost by an Illinois woman visiting Jacksonport's Maifest festival May 25.

Melanie K. Siedlinski, Burbank, Ill., was in Jacksonport and noticed her ring was missing after visiting the craft sale or playground area at Lakeshore Park. The lost ring was a 1-karat, pearl-shaped diamond ring with additional stones on a gold band. It had a custom back with an extender that opens.

It was appraised 10 years ago at $20,000. Anyone with knowledge of the ring should call the Door County Sheriff's Department at (920) 746-2400.

? A fire of unclear origin was discovered at a home under construction on June 2 in the town of Sevastopol.

Bradley Lautenbach, Egg Harbor, and his contractor, Todd Vanderheyden, Green Bay, reported a fire in the the middle of the living room floor, where the floors had recently been sanded. The construction crew and electrician had left the home intact about 6 p.m. May 31.

The fire appeared to have melted a green plastic pail that burned through the floor, leaving an 18- to 24-inch hole in the middle of the floor. The fire not only damaged the floor, but the heat damaged newly installed light fixtures in the ceiling, and the home also had smoke damage.

An investigation postulated it may have been the result of oil-stained rags left in the pail that caused a chemical reaction igniting the rags. The fire then burned itself out after melting the pail.

? Vandalism was reported in the town of Sevastopol to a private sign on Lake Forest Park Road.

Robert Brown, Sturgeon Bay, said Plexiglas and solar lights were smashed on the sign, which belongs to the Lake Forest Park Association, at the intersection with County TT. The damage estimate is $250.
