Bob and Jane Shirek, Fond du Lac residents who lead the band The Downtowners, will take the stage on Monday, June 17 for the first concert in the 10-week Music Under the Stars concert series. The weekly Monday night concerts take place at Buttermilk Creek Park from 7-8:30 p.m.

The Shirek's five-piece band specializes in Big Band sound, with an emphasis on a variety of styles including country, jazz, Latin, rock n' roll, polkas and swing.

The Downtowners, founded by the Shireks in 1980 as the house band for the former Colony Supper Club, perform for local events and at dance clubs around the state and beyond. Bob and Jane who are both retired music educators, lead the band with a variety of instruments that include trumpet, saxophones, clarinet, flugelhorn, guitar and accordion. Their rhythm section includes Dan Seidl on keyboards, Annie Wisner on bass and Greg Kilmer on drums. Each musician is also a vocalist with the band.

The Monday night Music Under the Stars concert series runs weekly through Aug. 19 at Buttermilk Creek Park. Food can be purchased prior to and during the concert, starting at 6:30. Brats, burgers, hotdogs, popcorn, root beer floats and more are available. Attendees need to bring their own chairs.
