NFDL Police, Culver's partner in helmet project

The North Fond du Lac Police Department, in cooperation with Culver's, will be issuing "sightations" to children observed wearing helmets while riding their bikes. The "sightation" can be redeemed for a free scoop of fresh frozen custard at Culver's on West Johnson Street in Fond du Lac.

To maximize your safety, every bicyclist should always wear a helmet. Riders should wear the helmet flat atop the head; not tilted back at an angle. The helmet should fit snugly and should not obstruct the rider's field of vision. Always wear the helmet with the chin strap firmly buckled.

Helmets provide a 66-88 percent reduction in the risk of head, brain and severe brain injury for all ages of bicyclists. Helmets provide equal levels of protection for crashes involving motor vehicles (69 percent) and crashes from all other causes (68 percent).

Chief Darren Pautsch would like to thank Rich and all of the staff at the Culver's restaurant on West Johnson Street.
