A surprise discovery while auctioning off property found inside an abandoned house on North Cherry Avenue has an auctioneer with more than 30 years in the business baffled.

Seth Berdan, an auctioneer who works for Gary Potts Auctions of Marshfield, removed a painting Tuesday afternoon from a wall in a house at 406 N. Cherry Ave. Behind the painting was a lock box in the wall that contained a "substantial amount" of cash.
