Nekoosa School Board adopts preliminary 2013-14 budget

Early plans call for 5 percent decrease in employee health insurance premiums

School Board members approved a preliminary 2013-14 budget this week, though the document did not include a proposed tax levy or mill rate.

Because the district has less than 5 percent of the information it needs to finalize the budget, which covers district spending July 1 through June 31, 2014, board members do not look at the proposed tax levy or mill rate until they consider it for approval in October when they have all of the figures they need to adopt a final budget, said Lynn Knight, the district's business manager.
