Northwoods horse ranches, stables offer range of riding options

For some folks, a horse is just a horse, of course. But for others, horsing around is a way of life.

Nearly every weekend, anywhere from 50 to 100 people visit Chism Trail Ranch in Merrill. Owned by Jeff and Sheryl Chism, the ranch features about 30 horses and 240 acres of riding trails.

"I've had horses all my life and always envisioned opening up a recreational ranch when I got older," Sheryl Chism said. "Horses can teach people a lot of things, like when to stand up for themselves, when to back off and how to be respectful. Your interaction with them extends far beyond a ride at the ranch." ...
