When the traditional vessel arrived bearing the chieftain of the 2013 Fyr Bal in Ephraim, the honoree was revealed as Hedy Heise, longtime resident and great-granddaughter of Thomas Godlett, one of the village's founders.

Heise said she was stunned that she received the chieftain distinction honoring outstanding members of the community.

"Just deeply honored they chose me. It's a humbling experience," she said. "They feel I do a lot in the community; I feel I do it in quieter ways." ...
