Stevens Point mayor: Nearly $60,000 gift helped reopen McDill Pond

Standing in front of McDill Pond on Saturday, Bob Spoerl called his donation of nearly $60,000 to purchase the nearby dam in order to help refill the pond after nearly two years a "no-brainer."

Spoerl recalled a conversation with Stevens Point Mayor Andrew Halverson in which Spoerl learned that the village of Whiting was seeking that amount in order to transfer the McDill Dam to the McDill Inland Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District.
