A newly formed group of Wisconsin Rapids-area merchants is working to keep residents shopping locally, despite the upcoming loss of a major retailer.

After Younkers' parent company announced in May it will close its store in the Rapids Mall by the end of July, several business owners, media consultants, including Daily Tribune Media, which hosted the initial meetings, and community members decided to come together to develop a strategy to promote shopping locally, said Robin Koeshall, owner of Paul Gross Jewelers and one of about a dozen members of the group, which collectively decided ...
