Fond du Lac Public Library has extended the deadline on artists' proposals for the creation of a unique piece to be installed in the Main Library downtown. The library wants to commission a piece that would recognize persons who donate money to the library.

The proposals must creatively solve the following requirements:

? The piece should evoke the love of the library and celebrate its growth and success.

? It must be able to be affixed securely to a public wall; it needs to be exceedingly sturdy and withstand touching (no papier-mâché, fabric, etc.).

? Be able to accept additional names over time, and the names portion of the piece has to be done in a manner that is very simple to replicate (for ex-ample, engraved brass nameplates or commercial printing).

Honorarium is $500. Artists submitting proposals should send a letter that includes specifics about materials and size of finished piece. Proposal should include a sketch or mock-up that accurately represents the colors and design of the finished work. A preference will be shown to submissions from artists who reside in Fond du Lac County.

Proposals should be sent to library Director Jon Mark Bolthouse, 32 Sheboygan St., Fond du Lac WI 54935; or e-mail bolthouse@fdlpl.org

Deadline is July 1.
