When the traditional vessel arrived bearing the chieftain of the 2013 Fyr Bal in Ephraim, the honoree was revealed as Hedy Heise, longtime resident and great-granddaughter of Thomas Godlett, one of the village's founders.

Heise said she was stunned that she received the distinction honoring outstanding members of the community.

"It's a humbling experience," she said. "They feel I do a lot in the community; I feel I do it in quieter ways." ...
