The state rested at the close of Wednesday's proceedings in a Door County trial of an Illinois man accused of killing a pregnant woman at a resort last August.

Brian M. Cooper, 36, is charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and one count of third-degree sexual assault in the Aug. 19 death of Alisha Bromfield, 21, Plainfield. Bromfield was six months pregnant when Cooper, who was not the father, allegedly strangled her at the Sand Bay Resort in the town of Nasewaupee.
