Flip Merwin Memorial: Mackesy wins again at Speedway

Overcomes two late restarts to claim 100-lap feature victory

Mark Mackesy held off two late restarts - the final coming with 12 laps left - to win the Flip Merwin Memorial for the second time in three years Thursday at the State Park Speedway.

"It's pretty special," Mackesy said. "Flip was a special guy, and I told his dad that (in victory row). They don't make too many like Flip."

Mackesy, who took the lead for good with roughly 40 laps left, took the inside line against Tim Sauter off the restart and managed to get position and pull away for his first win of the season at the speedway ...
