Race named for driver who died in 2003 crash

Mark Mackesy is a regular viewer of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", and the host's appearance, mannerisms and humor remind him of his late friend Philip "Flip" Merwin.

"I try to watch Jimmy Kimmel's monlogue nightly because it's hilarious and Flip was like him," said Mackesy, a 43-year-old Wausau native. "They look a little alike and Flip had that same dry humor and quick wit. He was zany and could come up with some good one-liners, that was Flip."

Merwin, a Wausau native who would have turned 38 two days ago, died in January 2003 in a crash while he led a preliminary heat of the World Championship Snowmobile ...
