Author to sign books about one-room school

A book signing will be held at the Charles and Jo Ann Lester Public Library in Nekoosa on Saturday. Edward J. Arendt of Marshfield, author of "Arbutus School History and Memories," will be at the library from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; books will be available for purchase.

The one-room Arbutus School, located several miles southwest of Nekoosa on Highway G in the town of Port Edwards, opened for students about 1900 and continued educating the students of the area until it closed at the end of December 1963. As of January 1964, the rural elementary students attended the elementary school in Nekoosa.
