The best way Jim Jaworski figured he could lure his pre-teen daughter, Brooke, back to the Wausau West track was with the promise of a prize.

If she could beat him again in a footrace, he told her, he would buy her a scoop of her favorite ice cream flavor - peanut butter cup.

So, there they were in April, with the blond, pony-tailed Brooke ready to break in her new neon green track spikes. ...
