Fox Valley Technical College tries to help foster hard science skills in kids through musical instrument construction

Many teens dream of jamming on an electric guitar, but building a custom-made stringed instrument while still in high school can seem as far-fetched as becoming the next Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Fox Valley Technical College is making that fantasy a reality for some middle and high school students participating in the Fabrication Laboratory summer camp. Students use the science skills they learn at the five-day camp to make electric guitars, said instructor Steven Gallagher.
