June 21, 1955 - Baird Law Office to be opened: Seven years of work by the Brown County Historical Society and the Brown County Bar Assn. will be climaxed with success Wednesday when the historic Baird Law Office on the west lawn of the county courthouse is formally opened to the public.
Baird built the office sometime between 1830 and 1832, adjacent to his new home in Navarino, on the ground now occupied by Baum's Corner Department Store at N. Monroe Ave. and Main St.
He used it as his law office until his retirement in 1860, and sometime after his death in 1875 it was hold and moved to a location on the North Side, where it was remodeled as a residence. There it remained, gradually deteriorating and virtually forgotten until 1948, when the Brown County Historical Society began negotiations to acquire it.
