Longtime barber Jerry Schalow not ready to hang up shears

Confucius said, "Find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life."

From 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Jerry Schalow works in his barbershop at 205 N. Central Ave. In winter, he shovels the front walk as early as 3 a.m. to prep for his 12-hour day. And he has been doing it for more than 60 years - 63 to be exact.

"I love barbering, and my health will tell me when I gotta quit," Schalow said. ...
