Bishop reportedly mulling offers from 3 teams

Jun. 21, 2013

Desmond Bishop has no shortage of options as it pertains to picking a new home in the NFL, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

On Friday afternoon, Rapoport reported the former Packers inside linebacker is mulling offers from Minnesota, Kansas City and the New York Giants after receiving his release from Green Bay on Monday (http://tinyurl.com/kpx8lyl)

During a Thursday interview with Sirius XM NFL, the 28-year-old linebacker indicated he’s mostly been fielding one-year offers for his services. He took his first visit to Minnesota on Wednesday and said the Giants, Jacksonville and San Francisco were also among the teams to show interest.

The sixth-year veteran missed all of last season after rupturing his hamstring tendon in the Packers’ preseason opener in San Diego on Aug. 9. Scheduled to make roughly $3.4 million in 2013, Bishop became expendable after the Packers opted to re-sign his replacement, Brad Jones, to a three-year, $11.75 million deal this offseason.

Around 3:30 p.m. Central Time, Bishop tweeted: “Decisions decisions!!! Stuff spot, but great position to be in because I have options. Truly a blessing.”

After emerging as a starter in 2010, the 6-foot-2, 238-pound Bishop registered 292 tackles with nine sacks, nine pass deflections and eight forced fumbles over the course of 69 regular-season contests in Green Bay.

Speaking Monday with Press-Gazette Media, Bishop didn’t rule out a potential return to Green Bay, but it appears he has his choice of opportunities to compete for a starting job elsewhere.

That's assuming his hamstring is as healthy as he's indicated and checks out fine from the muscle strain inside the hamstring that held him out of the Packers’ organized team activities and mini-camp practices.
