Local expert shares his work on natural forestry with German group (with video)

Hans Schabel's enthusiasm for forestry and for the work he has done on his property during more than four decades still is immense.

As he walks through his front yard, Schabel can point to the vast species of trees, numbering more than 80, that either previously grew there or were planted since he bought the 60-acre property at 7976 County Road I in 1976. There also are rock gardens, horses, vegetables and fruit being grown, including shiitake mushrooms on logs set against one of his barns.
