After deliberating for 14 hours over two days, a jury in Door County Circuit Court failed to reach agreement Saturday on whether Brian M. Cooper committed two counts of first-degree intentional homicide when he strangled Alisha Bromfield, who was six months pregnant when she died Aug. 19.

The jury, which was selected in Wood County June 14 and then traveled to Sturgeon Bay for the trial, did deliver a guilty verdict for a charge of third-degree sexual assault. Cooper had sex with the body after killing Bromfield in a room at a resort in the town of Nasewaupee, then called 911 from a Sister Bay gas ...
