Heated holdups: Rash of armed robberies keep police busy

Wearing a face mask that only showed his eyes and mouth, the man entered Lombardi Express gas station just after midnight and pointed a black gun at the clerk.

"Open the register and let me take the money," the woman recalled him saying earlier this month. "I'll shoot you if I have to, but I don't want to."

The woman opened the register and was ordered on the ground. The robber left June 7 with about $100. Police later arrested John McCabe, 20, who has been charged with that crime at 1828 S. Ashland Ave. He also also has been charged with two other robberies: June 7 at Bellevue Grand Grand Central Shell, ...
