Chalk one up for Team Rigor Mortis for proving how limber they are when it comes to doing some truly frightening things real fast with makeup. And no, we're not talking about blue eye shadow gone wrong.
Marla Van Lanen and Brianna Klein, both of The Morgue haunted house in De Pere, took top honors at the Bloody Mary Monster Makeup Wars competition earlier this month at the 10th annual Midwest Haunters Convention in Columbus, Ohio.
Along with Alex Dunning of the William A. Irvin Haunted Ship in Duluth, Minn., the team of three had 30 minutes and a bag of surprise Blood Mary makeup products to transform their model (Klein) into somebody you wouldn't want to bump into in the dark. Five teams competed in front of a live audience. Celebrity judges, including well-known special effects makeup artist Bobbi "Bloody Mary'' Weiner, whose Hollywood work includes turning those actors in the water at the end of "Titanic'' into frosty, blue-lipped corpses, named Team Rigor Mortis the winner based on detail, speed and completion.
Look for Van Lanen and Klein to put their skills with things like Ghoul Foundation Tri-Color Death Wheel and Black Death Makeup to use when the local haunted house season rolls around in October.
