The latest update from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation indicates work on the Bayview Bridge over Sturgeon Bay continues on schedule to reopen by Independence Day.
The bridge has been closed since March for rehabilitation work that includes structural steel repair, painting, electrical and machinery system upgrades, an overlay of the bridge deck and approaches. Traffic on Wisconsin 42/57 has been detoured through downtown Sturgeon Bay in the meantime.
The to-do list for the coming week has an air of final preparation: "Painters will continue painting in the north flanking span section. Electricians will continue with electrical controls installation and their control and machinery testing. Machinery room enclosures will be installed. Pavement marking will be placed. Traffic signal poles and light will be installed."
A few weeks ago the project manager predicted the bridge could be reopened to traffic by Friday, but certainly in time for July 4.
