A recreational vehicle got too close as the Michigan Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay opened for boat traffic late Sunday morning, and the huge cement counterweight sheared off the front of the vehicle.
Sturgeon Bay police reopened the bridge at 12:38 p.m., about two hours after the accident. With the Bayview Bridge on Wisconsin 42/57 closed for the past three months for rehabilitation, the downtown Maple-Oregon Bridge was left as the only route left across the bay as tourists started heading south after a weekend in Northern Door.
