Each year, about 10 people are struck and killed by trains in Wisconsin, federal data shows.

But two people died within 12 hours Monday after being hit by trains in separate incidents.

A 64-year-old Appleton man laid on the railroad tracks early Monday near E. Pacific and N. Durkee streets before he was struck and killed about 1:30 a.m. by a northbound train. Police think it was a suicide, Sgt. Dave Lund of the Appleton Police Department said. ...
