June 24, 1958 - Girls will form softball league in De Pere: Organization of a girls softball league will be started this evening in a meeting of interested players, managers and sponsors. Anyone interested in forming a team or joining as a player is invited to the session at 6:30 in VFW Park.

A playing night will be determined and diamonds open to the proposed league will be surveyed. It will be possible to organize a four or six-team league, depending upon interest shown at tonight's meeting.

According to Earl Walsh, city recreation director, there have been a number of requests for a girls baseball program. The director says the league will be open to high school girls not over 18 years of age.
