More women being arrested in the county

The number of women arrested in the county is increasing, and that's causing problems in an already crowded jail system.

That was one of the highlights of the Portage County Sheriff's Office 2012 annual report, which was released last week.

Nearly one-third of those arrested in 2012 were women, said Chief Deputy Dan Kontos. Typically, women make up about 10 percent of the number of people arrested in a given year - that includes anything from disorderly conduct to drunken driving. ...
