City dispatchers move to county building after glitch

The first step toward a combined Stevens Point and Portage County dispatch center hit a slight bump Monday, but is expected to be completed today.

City dispatchers today will move into the Sheriff's Office building as a step toward forming a single dispatch center for the entire county. The city and county combined dispatch centers to save money and address staffing shortages identified in a recent study.

With this week's move, city dispatchers will work side-by-side with county dispatchers, but will still work independently as city calls will be routed to them. ...
