Police: 17th Avenue collision still under investigation

An 85-year-old woman killed Monday in a three-vehicle crash on 17th Avenue was identified Tuesday as Francis M. Wilk of Wausau.

Wilk was killed just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of 17th and Stewart avenues, and Wausau Police Capt. Benjamin Bliven said Tuesday that investigators still are trying to determine what led up to the crash.

Police said Wilk was stopped at a traffic light behind a dual-axle Wisconsin Public Service Corp. truck when an SUV driven by a 51-year-old man slammed into the back of her car with such force that her vehicle was crushed almost entirely underneath the truck, ...
