The watercolor paintings of Karen Shanahan are featured in the July exhibit at Unitarian Universalist Gallery in Ephraim. An opening reception is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. July 5, and the public is invited.
Shanahan's goal is to emphasize light, which she said touches the simplest of objects, illuminating and turning them into magnificence. She has been painting seriously since 2003, when she took workshops at the Peninsula School of Art. She mainly paints flowers and still life.
