Fifth year of high school would give kids opportunities

Earlier this month, I walked across the stage in my Patriot reds and blues, a tassel dangling to the right of my cap with a shining gold 2013 charm accompanying my school colors. The 2013 stood for my fourth and final year at Appleton East High School. But how would my life have been different if the charm read 2014?

Extending high school to five years instead of four seems like every student's nightmare. I can attest to the annual longing for summer that kicks in around April. I can confirm that "senior slide" is very much alive and well for some soon-to-be graduates.

But even as a newly graduated ...
