A Mountain man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for repeated sexual assault of a child.
John R. Schindler Jr., 39, was charged Jan. 11 after he turned himself in at the Oconto County Sheriff's Department the day before.
He entered a guilty plea on April 4 in Oconto County Circuit Court.
The abuse began in July 2010 with a then-12-year-old, and continued for the next 2½ years, according to the criminal complaint. Repeated sexual abuse can be charged if there at least three violations of first or second degree sexual abuse of a child.
District Attorney Ed Burke recommended a sentence of 10 years confinement and 10 years extended supervision.
The pre-sentence investigation recommended six years incarceration and four years of extended supervision. The maximum sentence is 40 years.
But at the June 14 sentencing, Judge Jay N. Conley ruled Schindler would serve 12 years confinement and 10 years extended supervision. He was given credit for 156 days in jail.
Conley also ordered that when he's on extended supervision, Schindler pay the $250 DNA surcharge, $268 court costs and DOC fees, maintain absolute sobriety, gain employment, undergo any assessment, evaluation or treatment as directed by the DOC.
