Letter: Abortion restriction, ultrasound requirements are immoral

Abortion is for a woman to decide, period

EDITOR: It is appalling, that in 2013, a state legislature can dictate medical and health care decisions for women.

Forcing a woman to have an ultrasound before an abortion, so the woman would "bond" with the fetus, is ridiculous. If the pregnancy is not desired, no "bonding" will occur. Forcing providers to have admitting privileges within 30 miles of a clinic is outrageous. This is a standard that is not even required for non-abortion medical providers, as physicians have outreach clinics 50 to 75 miles away from their admitting facility.

Prohibiting state health insurance from covering abortions, and exempting religious organizations from providing coverage for contraceptives, could force women, already suffering from the current economic crisis, to seek other solutions - potentially bringing back back-alley abortions.

Banning abortions based on the fetus's sex is both inappropriate and immoral. And no person should be able to bring a lawsuit against a provider for performing an abortion that was consented to by the patient.

This is a decision that is to be made by the woman, and no one else. It is her body, and her right.

I thought that the Wisconsin state motto was "Forward". Perhaps the legislature should consider changing the motto to "Regressive" or "Backward."
