EDITOR: For the first time in history, Wausau held a March for Equality with overwhelming success! Most of those who support equality say they have a close friend, coworker or family member who is gay. It's easy to be anti-gay if you don't know any gay people - or are unaware that you do.

Once they become aware that someone they love; a friend, a family member or someone who they work with is gay, those individuals often re-think their position. They realize that gay people are just like everybody else.

Whether you know it or not, you have a gay friend, a gay family member, or a gay co-worker. Each time you echo anti-gay rhetoric, you are harming them, potentially beyond repair.

Twelve U.S. states now grant equal state rights to gay people. A majority of the country supports equal rights for gay people. Fourteen countries have granted full equality to gay people. Yet gay people in the United States are denied more than 1,500 rights, can be fired from their jobs in most states for being gay, can be kicked out of a restaurant or store if they're gay, and many are still bullied until they kill themselves.

Please stand for equality. It's what Jesus would do, and I hope you do too.
