The Spencer Kids Group (SKG) is always busy during the school year. Besides the after school programs, they also hold other events as fundraisers to help. However, the group does not slow down over the summer.

For the kids, SKG is offering a summer recreation program running from July 8 until August 15. Programs are offered from 9 a.m. until noon, Monday through Thursday. Cost is just $10 per child in grades K-6. Registration forms are available at Spencer Kids Group, 117 E. Clark Street.

Once again, SKG is bringing the outdoor movies to Spencer. The first movie is scheduled for July 11 at dusk. Location will be on the Spencer High School football field. The new bleachers will not be done yet, so bring a blanket or lawn chairs. On August 8, families can gather to watch "Madagascar." Concessions will be available during both movies. Make sure you bring your bug spray. In case of rain, the movies will be moved to an indoor space.

Do you wish you could attend a Milwaukee Brewers game, but just can't afford it? It is not quite major leagues, bus just down the road in Wisconsin Rapids you can catch a pretty good ball game. The players are college level and come from schools throughout the United States. On July 14, Spencer Kids Group is sponsoring a bus to watch the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters play the Eau Claire Express. The bus will leave from SKG at about 11 a.m. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m. The cost is $20 per person and includes the game ticket, bus ride, and free ballpark food and soda in the picnic area of the field. Registration and permission forms are available at SKG. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult. This would be an excellent activity for the family.

We're not done yet. On July 31, SKG is scheduling a trip to Mt. Olympus in Wisconsin Dells. The cost is $35 per person and includes the ticket, the bus ride, food and drinks. Registration/permission forms are available at SKG. The bus leaves from SKG at 8 a.m. and returns at approximately 8 p.m. Families and adults are welcome. Once again, children younger than the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult. They need at least 20 people in order for the trip to happen.

Two events are scheduled in August. They will be having a huge garage sale at the hall Aug. 1 to 3. This is during the village-wide garage sales. They do have a lot to choose from. Stop down and browse some. You never know what you might find. On Aug. 14, the Community Band will once again perform in the Lions Shelter. Proceeds will be used to benefit Spencer Kids Group after school homework program (SHIP). Come on down, the music is fantastic. Refreshments will be available.
